Mt. SAC employees have a rich history of community involvement and supporting charitable causes and we continue to encourage this noble tradition. However, it is important that we remain sensitive as to how we promote any charitable cause to the community.
Even when Mt. SAC employees are the beneficiaries, using College resources to promote an individual cause is not the appropriate way to proceed. This would include, for example, advertising nonprofit fundraisers via the Mt. SAC web site or campus e-mail, reproducing flyers through Printing Services or displaying literature and posters on campus counters and bulletin boards. Permitting campus access to promote even one nonprofit organization for publicity and/or fundraising purposes places a strain on our time and resources needed to promote those programs and projects on behalf of Mt. SAC.
The College has adopted a coordinated approach to charitable fundraising through the United Way pledge. The United Way Employee Giving Campaign supports a vast network of health and human service agencies, as well as our own Mt. SAC Foundation—whose specific mission is to raise funds for the College.
When an activity sponsored by a charitable group is organized on behalf of a Mt. SAC employee who will directly benefit from the fundraising effort, we are advising staff to work with the Mt. SAC Foundation to publicize the event. For assistance, call Leslie Kerr, Director of Development at ext. 5438.
Thank you for your understanding, assistance, and cooperation regarding this important matter that affects our College.
